translated from Spanish: Natural Heritage Under Threat – The Counter

Mr. Director:
The water crisis affecting some regions concerns us about its impact on the natural heritage, whose area of shelter considers the areas declared a National Monument under the category of Sanctuary of Nature.
The picture is very delicate as sscribed by the Technical Secretariat of the Council of National Monuments (CMN) under our Service. According to the document “Agroclimatic Coyuntura”, in the case of Valparaiso and the Metropolitan Region, the situation is so deficient that the period of return (in years) of an annual drought of these levels would be close to 70 years, according to the Agroclimatic Observatory Chile.
The extent of the drought damage was noted by one of our professionals at the Mad Yerba Shrine, where there were many animals in the mountain range that were in the “bones”. In addition, regional fire threat alerts have been received in other Nature Sanctuarys.
In the face of these facts and from the Natural Heritage area of the Technical Secretariat of the CMN, we have taken different measures with the support of the Conaf for the firefighting between Coquimbo and Biobío, and thus join the online monitoring system of the aforementioned Corporation.
For the above reason, we are called to make every effort to generate long-term public policies that not only guarantee the supply of water for citizens, but also, the safeguarding of our natural heritage, a source of ecological diversity that keeps the local and national identity of the country alive.
