Uber Mexico temporarily suspended 240 accounts, as well as two steer partners in Mexico City, after the Capital Health Secretariat notified it that a user could be a potential carrier of coronavirus.
The company reported that on 31 January, the Capital Health Secretariat made a request for information related to a user suspected of being a carrier of the new coronavirus originated in Wuhan, China.

“That request was answered on January 31 with contact information from two driver partners who possibly made trips with the user of the profile located,” Uber said.
As part of the company’s protocols, the company notified the two drivers and the 240 users of the temporary deactivation of their accounts.
Uber asked users whose accounts have been temporarily deactivated to contact the Epidemiological and Health Intelligence Unit (UIES) if they have symptoms.

Uber stated that all its users will be kept an eye on the response and indications by the capital authorities and any updates to their accounts.

Twitter user Norma Sanchez explained that Uber deregistered her account on the grounds that a user who used the same unit as her has a possible coronavirus contagion.
In questioning the company over social media, Uber responded to Norma by explaining the notification given by the Ministry of Health and the protocol they implemented.

The Capital Health Secretariat indicated that Mexico City has so far reported no confirmed cases by coronavirus.
“Regarding what is disseminated on social networks linked to the company Uber, which refers to one of its units moving a person of Chinese origin, from Los Angeles, with possible case by coronavirus, the Ministry of Health of Mexico City communicates that it is being monitored in a timely manner and under established protocols, in coordination with the local and federal Epidemiology team,” he said in a statement.
He assured that, in the event of a suspicious case, isolation and corresponding study of contacts was carried out, to confirm or rule out any contagious event.
